The car was given to me by my grandmother in 1986. It was my grandfathers from new, 04/67. The colour is Black Cherry with a black interior. It had covered  47,000 miles and was in a good and original condition.

1967 FORD CORTINA MKII 1500cc SUPER

This photo was taken in 1987 at the Colchester classic car show. It was my first car on the road (called Marilyn) and I started to modified it with Rostyle wheels, lowered suspension, twin choke Weber, four branch exhaust and 1600E gearbox.

I only had the Cortina on the road from 11/86 to 06/88 but my inexperience and a couple of accidents led to it being ‘written off’.Work was started but the car stood outside for most of the time. Eventually a hedge grew over the top so you could just see one side.

1994 is when the restoration really started. The car was taken to friends at Frinton Coachworks and I took a weeks holiday to help start the work.

I got the Cortina back in 1996, resprayed but minus a n/s/r door, front wings, bonnet and repair to the front valence. The first thing I did was to strip down the front suspension, and there the car sat, on axle stands for another 8 years.

It’s now September 2004 and after a coat of paint the suspension is put back! The car goes back to Frinton Coachworks to have restored front panels and a n/s/r door fitted.

FRONT PANEL REPAIR

After just 2 weeks work the bodywork is completed.

The next part of the rebuild is not a nut and bolt restoration, more a trial fitting of parts. Most parts were removed 16 years ago and are scattered through out the garage, attic and garden!

The engine came in from the garden and was rebuilt only needing: a crack in the cyl head and sump pan welded, piston ring set, water pump and gasket kits fitted.

The heater and wiper assemblies, dash and interior trim were all found and fitted. Only the headlining required a small repair.

My donor car provided the flywheel, clutch assembly and gearbox. The original gearbox is pictured and will eventually be fitted.
